Body

For male patients the abdomen is the most commonly requested area for liposculpture followed by the
waistline, the neck and chest.

Liposculpture

Liposuction has come a long way in the past decade – offering much more than simply removing excess fat. More advanced procedures allow a good surgeon to mould the skin and underlying tissue to resculpt body parts and create more harmonious curves to the overall body shape.

In recent years, Dr Liew has adopted the Vaser High Definition Liposculpture technique which is advanced liposculpting with ultrasonic energy. It is very effective in selectively removing unwanted fat to create a sculpted appearance suitable for men.

For male patients the abdomen is the most commonly requested area for liposculpture followed by the waistline, the neck and chest.

Risks are minimal for a properly performed liposculpture and the results can be maintained if the patient keeps to a balanced lifestyle and diet. Most liposculpture procedures can be performed as day surgery - either under general anaesthesia or other forms of sedation.

Buffalo Hump

Buffalo hump is the common description for the “cervicodorsal fatpad”, an abnormal fatty hump on the back of the neck, extending to between the shoulder blades.

In extreme cases this condition causes patients great distress - from social embarrassment to basic challenges like not being able to fit into regular sized clothing.

There are a number of causes for the condition, including some medications and hormonal diseases. The most common cause is side effects from certain anti HIV medications.

The treatment of choice is removal of the fat pad with ultrasonic liposuction. We believe conventional liposuction is far less effective as the fat in buffalo hump tends to be very firm and more fibrous than normal fat.

The procedure is normally performed under general anaesthetic and as a day surgical procedure.

Tummy Tuck (abdominoplasty)

As we age, the abdominal skin loses its elasticity and the underlying muscles become loose and weak. Fat distribution to the lower abdomen also increases – creating a bulge.

This loss of shape to the abdomen is further exacerbated by excess loose skin created by weight loss which no amount of exercise can reverse.

The tummy tuck procedure or abdominoplasty aims to remove the loose excess skin - including stretch marks - and tighten the weakened abdominal muscles.

Properly performed, a tummy tuck will produce a firm and taut abdomen and restore the "six pack" once obscured by loose skin folds.

Many patients often combine this procedure with liposculpturing to remove any excess fat.
